Wednesday 27th October 2021 marked the 54th anniversary of the passing of the Abortion Act in the UK. Members of various pro-life organisations gathered together in Parliament Square as part of a static, remembrance display organised by March for Life UK.
In attendance were life peer Lord Alton, Fiona Bruce MP chair of the Conservative Party Human Rights Commission, Bishop John Sherrington representative of Cardinal Vincent Nichols (head of the Catholic Church in England & Wales), Bishop John Keenan representing Scottish Catholics and Pastor Ade Omooba co-founder of Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre.
One of the event organisers, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, said
‘This day should not pass unmarked, it is a day we remember the 9,789,238 children who have been legally aborted since the passing of the Abortion Act. To think we are still offering abortion as a solution to a crisis pregnancy shows our low regard for human life – women deserve better than this.’

Those present were dressed in black and stood around the edge of Parliament Square holding posters detailing the amount of abortions which occurred in the year they were born. Other posters highlighted the effect that abortion had had on women and society whilst the main banner stated the number of abortions since 1967: 9,789,238.
Having a baby is challenging , but it is the most amazing thing in the world. Every life has value.

This sentiment was supported by Lord Alton who announced
We were told it (abortion) would only ever be used in extreme circumstances, in hard cases. 54 years later we approach 10 million abortions, that’s almost one in every three minutes.
